Packed with nutrients
The abundance of nutrients in jaggery is good for keeping warm in the winter season. Packed with antioxidants, it bears natural cleansing properties, which helps purify the bloodstream and regulate body temperature. Its potassium content helps lower blood pressure and also diminishes water retention in the body, allowing better weight control. Minerals like phosphorus, magnesium and calcium help strengthen and promote bone growth. Its rich iron content allows production of red blood cells making it good for anemia.
Jaggery cleans the digestive tract, helping alleviate acidity and gas. Chewing a little bit of jaggery as an after-meal sweetener helps alleviate gas. To make a sour burp go away, take the combination of jaggery with rock salt. With water or milk, it has a cooling effect on the stomach.
Protects the respiratory system
The heat present in jaggery gives it its phlegm-expelling action, making it an effective treatment for cold and cough. It protects the lungs and helps alleviate infection, congestion, asthma and other respiratory issues. Consuming jaggery with milk or water curbs the harm caused to the respiratory system by everyday pollution. For respiratory disorders, you can also take little bit of jaggery with mustard oil or with black sesame. With cooked rice, it helps soothe the throat.
To relieve a headache, you can apply the paste of ½ teaspoon of jaggery with ½ teaspoon of sesame seeds & a few drops of milk. This also helps reduce the frequency of migraine attacks. To reduce ear pain, taking some jaggery with cow ghee will be helpful.
